The Passing of a Legend

April 17, 2014

Jim Stokes, one of our legendary players, passed away this morning at the age of 89.

I myself have many fond memories of Jim, as I'm sure many of our players do. Jim was one of the best players in Springfield for many years and was always a pleasure to play with. Jim was a former City Am and Match Play champion and played with the best ball group for a number of years and was liked by all.

One of my favorite memories of Jim was playing in a scramble in Xenia. One of our players canceled that morning, so Sean Ryan called Jim to see if he would play. Sean opened his call with "this is the call you have been waiting your whole life for". Jim agreed to play, and holed out from 80 yards on the first hole, then made nearly every putt during the round. We went on to win, and could not have done it without Jim.

Besides golf, Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent most of his 33-year retirement fishing, hunting, and playing golf.

Rest in peace Jim. We will miss you!
